I got up early this morning to indulge in the proper breakfast provided to me in the food bank box, the oatmeal, as I simply dined on a hamburger bun and some peanut butter yesterday morning.
After a quick call to my mom (whose help I needed in “cooking” the oatmeal, left to me in non-descriptive packets) and a quick response of “Just put water in it,” I was on my way.
This is where the seasoning kicks in.
While we can’t argue about the necessity of food and simple toiletry items, we have to remember, like Kristylee said, to donate as we would want to be donated to. The Golden Rule of Giving.
Like last night’s dinner of noodles, beans and cheese powder. I would have probably sold my sister to add some Tabasco Sauce or some salt and pepper. This morning was the same, but much, much worse.
Plain oatmeal, just add water, no sugar, or fruit or anything. It tasted like a roll of paper towel soaked in water.
I resorted to the toasted hamburger bun and peanut butter, alternating bites to mask the (lack of) taste, but needless to say, it was a very hard meal to get through, perhaps the hardest so far, yes, counting last night’s improvisational extravaganza.
I also, once again, forgot to drink my peach juice, simply going with water, which I’m sure we can all agree, that there was enough H20 flowing through that meal as it is.
It is going to be a long day. I will be covering a municipal council meeting tonight for the paper, which frightens me, thinking that I won’t have my normal distractions to take away from the hunger that I’m feeling almost constantly. This could be a very long night.
1) i’m gonna pretend you didn’t have to call your mom to ask how to cook the oatmeal :) haha and 2) i would also have considered selling something in return for some brown sugar or something for my oatmeal! haha and 3) do you maybe need me to call and remind you to drink your peach juice? haha and isn’t there usually free food at those council meetings? FILL YOUR POCKETS! haha
Alright, alright, alright…
I have NEVER eaten oatmeal before, but I assumed it was an “add water” kind of thing, because otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to eat it.
The other thing you have to take into consideration is that it came in a brown paper package. The only reason I even KNEW it was oatmeal was because one of the girls at the office told me so, I first thought it was coffee.
No free food, but even if there was, NEVER BREAK THE DIET.
